Jesus, what a great album. Probably indeed the best album of 2016. This needs to be GOLD !!!
Question on the problematic material used... Was it a straight SAMPLE that they had to re-record as CSH playing the song? My version still has the snippet of the Cars song, but as played by CSH, not a sample of the actual recording by The Cars. Help! I can't listen to the original, so I'm counting on you to let me know.
Thank you for the additional info! Super-helpful. I'm listening to it now to see which version I have... Turns out it's the recalled version!
The problem material is all played by CSH, but lyrics and melody are played for long enough to clearly violate copyright laws.
The recalled version of the song features about fifteen seconds of additional guitar introduction that is the opening from the Cars song, and the end of the song is a full cover of the first verse of the Cars song. In both cases the music is played by the band not sampled. The reissued version of the song has only about a second of two of the introduction before Will starts to sing, and the ending is replaced with samples from an interview Will gave mixed with a sample from a previous Car Seat Headrest song, I believe its the Teens of Style version of "Something Soon".
I love Mercedes
An excellent album about dealing with depression and how to over come it.
Pressing is excellent and dead flat. I have owned the standard black, VMP yellow, and this pressing. This surpasses the other two in overall quality.
Yes. I like the song writing, musicianship and quirky context. But, it's just too damn long.
Question: my version came with one custom inner sleeve and one generic white inner sleeve. Is it supposed to come with two custom inner sleeves (one for each disc)?
did you buy from Vinyl Me Please? they sent me the 2nd picture sleeve in a later shipment.
What's up with the weird rating spread? Does this record have sound issues?
Yo forreal I think the first pressing was just subpar.
I experience the same problems with noise en distortion halfway "Cosmic Heroes". Also thought my turntable had problems, but it's the same every time. Other parts of the record seem OK to me though.
I've noticed some distortion and noise issues on 'cosmic heroes' the last song on the record. adjusted my turntable but it didnt change a thing. maybe it comes with the pressing being inferior or something like that.
Not sure how this happened... but on July 10th I ordered from a 3rd party seller on Amazon de, and today received this vinyl me please transparent yellow version, number 0000/0000! It contains both discs... this is weird!!!
Printed in ner sleeves. Records are fine, no warp age.
Did you get the printed sleeves or plain white? Any warpage?
Yes that's weird, maybe you should contact the seller, but anyway you're lucky !
It's the original. I don't think the repressed discs are done yet...This is why i thinks it's weird... an original version from vinyl me please, without proper numbering, bought from a German seller...
Is it the reworked version of disc 1, or the original one ?
Where's the entry for the non-recalled, regular black vinyl edition of this amazing album? My copy came in the mail today... :)[never mind, just created this entry]
Was randomly perusing my lists on Amazon yesterday and saw that they had Teens of Denial in stock but that it would take "2-3 days" to process. Ordered it thinking it was probably just the preorder listing for the post recall version, but it shipped last night and the listing only has 3rd party sellers now. I'm wondering if it's just the second disc with the first to come later. Anyone received a copy from Amazon with some insight?
My CD purchased from Amazon includes "Just What I Needed / Not Just What I Needed". Ordered it Saturday, received it today.
I was SO surprised to find a copy of this sitting on my doorstep when I got home from a weeklong trip. I read about the recall due to an unauthorized sample (on my second favorite track, no less) and was ecstatic to discover that I have a copy with this sample intact. I wonder how many of them snuck out.
There are currently two entries here on Discogs for the recalled 2xLP. I have one, and chose this entry, as it matches the catalog number closer than the other entry (it's OLE-1091-1 instead of the OLE-1091-2P listed here, but that's closer than the other entry's OLE-1071-1).I pre-ordered on Amazon 8 days before release date and still ended up getting the recalled version, complete with the original version of "Just What I Needed / Not Just What I Needed." I see Amazon is no longer selling it, but I wonder if the copies they had in place before the "recall" were really recalled. How rare is this thing, really? Was I really just lucky that Amazon didn't cancel my order? Is this record bound to be a collector's item? It's crazy to think people are already paying $100 or more for this version.
A year and a half later and people are still paying insane prices for this variant. I really thought more copies would make it out into the wild, but apparently not. I guess us folks who pre-ordered on Amazon lucked out.
because vinyl is collectible so people's wallets will go empty.

I thought the track that sampled The Cars was called "There Is a Policeman in All Our Heads, He Must Be Destroyed”?
The track Just What I Needed/Not Just What I Needed is actually a lot better without The Cars sample so idk why people want the recalled version so much. Even Will Toledo said the song got much better once he fixed it without the sample.
I also preordered from Amazon about the same time frame as you and also received the recalled version, which actually arrived a day before its actual release. Seems to be an error on Amazons part as Matador did put a recall out on the album. We may never know how many actually made it out into the wild.
