Notes

Includes five bonus tracks not on originaly vinyl release.

From the CD booklet:
ORIGINAL LP SLEEVE NOTES
In A Rut/H-Eyes...
Our first single recorded at Fairdeal 8-track studio in Hayes May '78. Originally to be released as an E.P. with a considerably slower version of "Society" on it. Released on Misty's own label People Unite. Produced by us, engineer Stuart Johnson.
Staring At The Rude Boys/Love In Vain
We included Love In Vain on this record because nobody listened to it as the B-side of Staring At The Rude Boys and in case you didn't hear the A-side.....
Produced and engineered by Mick Glossop (for Dukeslodge Enterprises) at Air and Townhouse Studios February '80. Brass added later by Bill Barnacle's Horns: Gary Barnacle sax and quips, Bill Barnacle trumpet and drinks and quips. Engineered by John Brand, tape op 'Chappie' Chambers.
Demolition Dancing/Secret Soldiers
Taken from the last John Peel session we did around February '80. (Thanks to John and the BBC). Produced by Tony Wilson, engineered by Dave Dade on 8-track at Maida Vale Studios. This was the only occasion "Secret Soldiers" was recorded.
West One (Shine On Me)......
The backing track was recorded in a 16-track in Shepherds Bush, but we don't talk about it. The engineer was OK tho' - Paul Bass. Overdubs and mixing engineered at the Townhouse. Produced by us. Version mixed by Ruts and John Brand at the Townhouse. Opted tapes by Phil (Whoops, there goes the master) Vinyl.
SUS/Babylon's Burning/Society....
Recorded live, CHORUS late 1979. Mixed live onto 2-track, so no overdubs whatsoever. Engineered by Michel (but we can't remember his other name). Bosun o' the Mix, Andy Dayman.

BONUS TRACK SLEEVE NOTES
West One (Shine On Me)
This is the original 7" version of the song and it appears here on CD for the first time. Actually spent a month in the UK charts in August 1980 peaking at the No.43. position. It was later covered by Sunderland Oi!sters Red Alert on the "Tribute to the Ruts" CD.

The Crack
Originally issued as the B-Side to the "West One" single (VS 370) and featuring Quizmaster Mick Bamber' Glossop.

Denial
Only previously available on the "Bustin' Out" compilation this instrumental track was a taster' to the sound that Ruts D.C. were to follow.

Stepping Bondage / Lobotomy / Rich Bitch
These tracks are the first recordings The Ruts made way back in 77. The B-Side saw Dave Ruffy playing bass, Paul Mattock drums, Malcolm Owen vocals and Paul Fox guitar. The A-side was recorded a little later when Dave Ruffy went back to drums and Segs (up till then a roadie) played bass. We performed these songs on stage and they have only been available on very dodgy live' bootlegs.

Tracks 1-12 licensed from Virgin Records Ltd. The copyright in this compilation is owned by Virgin Records Ltd except tracks 13-16 The Ruts.
