Is this the same version that was released in the Empire box?

It's not - I emailed Numero and they responded saying its an entirely new cut and master since the box set.

Most likely, Numero has all the original masters so I really don't think this pressing would be much different. I don't own Empire in completion (just an extra Challenge For A Civilized Society LP) so I can't confirm this. But this pressing sounds amazing!

I passed up the on the chance to buy the record on it's initial release// silly me.. ( back in the dark days of cds) So i was excited about this reissue and wow i am not disappointed.This is a fantastic reissue and a great quiet pressing.I highly recommend this album.

According to many people I know including Vern, the original was a pretty sub-par pressing anyway. This one is far superior. I probably wouldn't spend money to own the first aside from collection purposes.

Really fantastic sounding pressing, and similarly fantastic packaging quality. One of my favorite autumn albums, so this is just in time. :)

Packaging: almost identical to the first press with the printed gatefold design save for the fact that the lettering on the front and back are far more legible now. The disc is flat and quiet. It comes in a plastic sleeve rather than your typical paper. The remaster really opens up the sound stage. The original always sounded a bit muffled and boomy for my taste. This remaster really clears up some space for the instruments to wander around more freely. Thus, I am hearing details I didn't quite get the first time around. Fantastic press!

Furthermore, Numero has done an incredible job with the Unwound remasters so I know to expect high-quality and not be disappointed.

Agreed! I do have an original that sounds pretty good but this definitely needs a remaster. Can't wait to do a side by side!

Counting down the minutes until this is released. I am so excited to hear this on vinyl for the first time, never got a chance to grab the original...

Is anyone else's copy of this a little noisy, or have I just picked a slightly dirty copy up? I've tried giving it a thorough clean but there's still some surface noise in quieter periods.

Agreed! Reissue, remaster/remix.... something other than what Numero did with Empire, since that was like 4 LPs in one. I just want to buy LTIY without all that extra stuff.

I saw that as well. Kinda weird. Although it fits well on an album riddled with technical mistakes (ooooh burn) (i love the album anyways ofc)
